Ahmad Al Harthy puts 99 Racing on pole for this weekend’s two Asian Le Mans Series races at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
The Omani driver took the lead in his first qualifying session in the #98 Oreca 07 Gibson and clocked a time of 1:42.644, over a second ahead of DKR Engineering’s Salih Yoluc.
Yoluc’s third-placed Oreca was just 0.003 seconds ahead of Nielsen Racing’s Rodrigo Sales, who finished third.
Charles Crews took pole in both races in Dubai in the No. 43 Europol Oreca, qualifying ahead of Algarve Pro Racing ) of John Falb (John Falb) finished fourth.
Cruise’s race was complicated by a spin in the final corner. He was intact and able to continue, but it took the American some time to get his car pointed in the right direction again.
His troubles meant he missed out on a top-five finish in Sunday’s second race, with Cool Racing’s Alexandre Coigny moving up to fifth behind Al Harthy, Sales, Yoluc and Falb.
LMP3 pole position in both races was taken by Rinaldi Racing’s Torsten Kratz in WTM.
The German won the championship with a time of 1:48.576 in the No. 11 Duqueine D08 Nissan, ahead of Alexander Bukhantsov’s No. 73 Inter Europol Competition Ligier JS P320 Nissan.
Nielsen Racing’s Tony Wells finished third ahead of the second Rinaldi driven by Matthias Luethen.
Kratz and Bukhantsov also occupied the front row for Sunday’s second race, with MV2S Racing’s Jerome de Sadeleer rounding out the top three for the season finale.
Qualifying for the prototype runner ended early due to a red flag on the spinning Yasser Shahin.
The Australian swapped finishes at Turn 6 and was temporarily stationary on the inside of the corner.
By the time he managed to get back into the United Autosports Oreca number 23 car, race control had called off the race.
With just over two minutes left, it was decided not to resume qualifying.
Liam Talbot’s late charge secured HubAuto Racing pole position in both GT class races this weekend.
In a race that initially saw Walkenhorst Motorsport’s Thomas Merrill and Haupt Racing Team’s Martin Konrad battling for the top spot, Talbot swooped in late on in the No. 72 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, beating both cars.
Merrill’s #34 BMW M4 GT3 was second in the first race later today, with Konrad third in the #7 Mercedes.
Stefano Constantini finished fourth in the #21 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020, with Herberth Motorsport’s Ralf Bohn rounding out the top five.
The order of the top three was reversed for Sunday’s race, with Conrad second and Merrill third.
Qualifying for the GT runners was delayed by about half an hour as the #67 Orange Racing, powered by a JMH McLaren 720S GT3 driven by Simon Orange, raised its red flag early.
A suspected brake problem caused Orange to come out of Turn 9, the impact of which required repairs to the barrier.
This afternoon’s race at Yas Marina Circuit kicks off at 3pm local time (6am ET).
