Al Hosn Music Festival returns with inspiring shows in 2021

[ad_1]

The annual Al Hosn Music Festival in Abu Dhabi will return this year. From November 25th to December 4th, a culturally rich 10-day program will be held at the famous Al Hosn site.

The festival is organized by the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) and features performances, art installations, film screenings, culinary experiences, handicrafts and design.

As an important part of the UAE cultural calendar, the festival celebrates UAE traditions and craftsmanship and connects them with contemporary art practices in the UAE. The festival is also in line with the vision and mission of DCT Abu Dhabi to protect, preserve and promote the heritage of the emirate, as the event showcases the cultural scene of Abu Dhabi and provides a platform for art experimentation and public participation.

DCT Abu Dhabi Deputy Secretary-General Saood Al Hosani said: “Al Hosn is a symbol of the Emirate’s rich history and a source of immense pride for our people. This annual festival celebrates our vibrant UAE traditions and creative, innovative contemporary art. The ideal platform for the scene. We invite the community to experience a stimulating cultural activity program suitable for all ages, allowing them to re-recognize the past, understand where we come from, and look forward to the future.”

A series of activities around UAE heritage, storytelling and handicrafts will take place around Qasr Al Hosn and the House of Artisans. Visitors will be able to experience the daily life of Qasr Al Hosn in the 1950s and 1960s through the “One Day in the Palace” exhibition, which will display pictures, audio recommendations and interactive elements to portray the traditional life of Qasr Al Hosn and depict the daily life of the fortress Scene.

The elements of Abu Dhabi’s intangible heritage will also be celebrated at the Artisan House through the display of UAE crafts and handicrafts. Visitors will be able to indulge in immersive experiences, from sensory journeys to photography creative stations.

The journey will continue through the “Maker Village”, where there will be artists and designers, fashion designers, fashion brands and culinary shops from local and regional concept stores. The open-air film screenings will take place throughout the festival, curated by ImageNation Abu Dhabi and the highly anticipated second edition of the Gahwa Championship. Visitors of all ages will also enjoy a variety of creative workshops, including coral sculpture classes and Arabic calligraphy master classes at the Bait Al Khatt Center.

Finally, the cultural journey will end with some contemporary artistic expressions, which will interpret the evolving urban landscape of the emirate, which is rooted in the rich cultural heritage and identity. Other cultural concepts will also be exhibited, including installations by Cyril Lancelin, founder of Town and Concrete.

The Cultural Foundation’s visual arts projects will continue to portray Abu Dhabi’s evolution from the traditional past to modern and contemporary expressions. Three exhibitions will be on display: Mohamed Chebaa and the Casablanca Art School; Al Mujamma, an interactive archive installation containing the memories of the UAE community; and Food for Thought: Rasheed Araeen’s Thought Transformation.

The Cultural Foundation will also host special performing arts programs in its indoor and outdoor theaters, inviting famous musicians and artists to participate. In addition, the courtyard and children’s library will provide interactive installations and seminars.

Building on the success of the first classic auto show in 2019, the festival will kick off with a parade of 50 classic cars to celebrate the golden jubilee in the United Arab Emirates.

Al Hosn is the city’s original urban block and includes the historic Qasr Al Hosn fortress, cultural foundation and artisan’s home. Al Hosn is a symbol of the UAE’s proud cultural heritage, bringing its rich history, people and traditional structure to life and highlighting the city’s future ambitions.
