Al Masaood Power Division has provided a sustainable power solution for its partner Khazna data center using an environmentally friendly generator set “mtu A Rolls-Royce solution Series 4000”.
This 2000/2200-KW diesel generator set is designed to switch to a range of sustainable fuels including Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO) or EN15940 compliant synthetic fuels such as Gas to Liquefaction (GtL).
In line with the UAE’s ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and Khazna’s commitment to building more sustainable data centers, Khazna, the largest hyperscale data center provider in the MENA region, is installing innovative technology to reduce its carbon footprint and emissions , including the use of innovative generators that burn renewable fuels, while maintaining the reliability of diesel generators to provide mission-critical backup power. The importance of backup power to businesses, especially data centers, is huge as the financial consequences and overall outages of power outages are steadily increasing.
sustainable development goals
Rasso Bartenschlager, General Manager of Al Masaood’s Power Sector, said: “This is in line with our commitment to help the UAE achieve its Sustainable Development Goals and achieve its Sustainable Development Vision. The UAE and many other GCC countries are working very hard to adopt sustainable practices and move to clean, Green energy. As a leader in the energy sector, we place a high priority on accelerating the transition to sustainable energy by introducing new technologies in the region.”
Fouad Ibrahim, Senior Director, Infrastructure Planning and Senior Director, Khazna Data Centers, said: “At Khazna, we have a ‘Future First Strategy’ to enable our customers to connect to a more sustainable future and we are implementing new technologies to support this One of the initiatives we have taken is to adopt HVO based fuels to fuel our backup generators. Recent studies have shown that the use of HVO can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90%. Eco-friendly Generators by Al Masaood Power Supports our long-term goal of reducing our carbon footprint and provides all the functionality our operations need to run seamlessly.”
customizable options
mtu A Rolls-Royce Solutions Series 4000 generators are primarily diesel based and offer many customizable options including the use of sustainable fuels such as HVO, which provide better storage and lower emissions. It has the ability to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 90%, particulate matter emissions by 80% and nitrogen oxide emissions by 8%.
Next year, the generator will be equipped with an on-demand conversion kit, enabling the field-installed gas engine to run on 100% hydrogen.
Thanks to the combination of key technologies such as turbocharging, exhaust gas aftertreatment and common rail injection, the mtu A Rolls-Royce solution Series 4000 engine is one of the most advanced propulsion technologies on the market. — trade arab news agency
