alonso released high mountain Driving an unbranded AMR22 in a Pirelli tire test after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix gave him a useful head start in getting to know his new team.
With Pirelli kicking off its 2024 tire testing program in the new year, he could score more with the 2022 car.
“The efficiency with which the message was delivered was impressive, impressive,” said Clark of the Abu Dhabi outing.
“It’s always been straight to the point, very friendly, open, transparent, and I think it goes both ways. We’ve had a really good day, really.”
Asked to compare Alonso to his predecessor Sebastian Vettel Clark said: “Different, yes, because they have different backgrounds. One is Latin, one is German. It’s a big difference.
“But what they have in common is focus, focus on improving, focus on making progress, and also isolating what makes us progress, rather than refining it. Some similarities, but some differences.”

Clark said Alonso would obviously be the driving force of the team.
“I think Fernando, I always hold up this picture of the Mexican Grand Prix and talk about his frustration of not finishing seventh. It’s an example of dedication and drive.
“So if you have a guy who has this passion and desire to win, I think he’ll have an impact on the team and we can clearly see that everybody is really happy to have this guy in the car.
“I think he might have another spark from his own passion and desire to win for his team.”
Clarke hinted that Alonso may remain involved with Aston Martin even after retiring from the cockpit: “We’ve had some really good conversations with him. That can go beyond driving, in my opinion.
“Fernando, who joined us, has always been a central part of the team and we’ll have to see how that develops. But I think he can play a big part in the future of the team.”
Aston Martin technical director Dan Fallows agrees that Alonso can make a significant contribution to moving the team forward.
“From a technology standpoint, it’s important that we have drivers who can give good feedback,” Fallows said.
“I wouldn’t say positive feedback because that’s not always the case. But good feedback, and being able to describe how they feel in the car, is very important to us.
“We’re lucky, Lance [Stroll] Very good in that regard too.
“I don’t think we missed anything in particular with Seb’s departure.
“But we do want to produce a better performing car next year, we do want to see that progress and we need to make sure our drivers get the most out of it.
“As I said, I think with Lance we have a driver who can drive the car and obviously Fernando has a lot of experience and a track record in that. It’s a very exciting line-up of drivers .”
