Amazon announced that it will create 1,500 direct and indirect jobs in the UAE this year to expand its footprint to support the country’s acceleration of its digital economy. As demand evolves, this expansion will help the company better serve customers and communities by providing a smarter, faster, and even more consistent experience.
Amazon is promoting job creation because it has increased the storage capacity of its fulfillment centers by 60%, providing customers with more product choices. By the end of 2021, the company’s storage space in the UAE will exceed 3.7 million cubic feet — the equivalent of approximately 40 Olympic-sized swimming pools — enabling Amazon to store millions of products for businesses. The expansion has also created additional employment opportunities through its sellers and delivery partners. The company is adding four new delivery stations, and its total area will increase by 70%, thereby speeding up delivery processing and expanding coverage.
“We are expanding our business to support the customer experience, so that people across the UAE can get what they want anytime, anywhere. Amazon Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Operations Director Prashant Saran said: “Our expansion has benefited from our continued commitment to the UAE. Supported by the growing digital economy because we will continue to invest in people, processes and technology. “As we accelerate our culture of innovation to better serve our customers, we are delighted to be a promoter of talent opportunities in the UAE. We provide a rich environment so that employees can learn and grow in a modern workplace where safety is highly valued. Amazon’s investment reflects our long-term commitment to the communities in which we operate, as we will continue to grow in a sustainable and responsible manner,” Saran added.
The company has a rich history of inventing and introducing cutting-edge technologies to help employees and ensure their safety when delivering to customers. Amazon’s expansion in the UAE has created a variety of job opportunities, opened up new career paths, and benefited the country’s talent pool.
Business expansion in the UAE will be achieved through a series of new openings, closures and upgrades of old buildings, aiming to provide a better experience for Amazon’s customers. As Amazon expands in the region, it is committed to establishing sustainable operations as a foundation.
Today, the UAE’s Amazon network includes two fulfillment centers, eight distribution stations, three sorting centers, and a network of distribution service partners. As Amazon continues to expand its footprint in the UAE, the health and safety of its employees, customers and partners remain critical. To date, the company has changed more than 150 processes in its logistics network and has invested more than $11.5 billion in COVID-19-related investments worldwide in 2020.
