Andrew Garfield, Daisy Edgar-Jones to Star in ‘Voyager’ – Variety

“Amazing Woman” Oscar-winning director Sebastian Lerio will direct Andrew Garfield and Daisy Edgar-Jones In “Voyager,” the story of a romantic relationship between astronomer and “Contact” author Carl Sagan and documentary filmmaker/director Andrew Young.

The feature was produced by FilmNation Entertainment’s Ben Browning, Lynda Obst, who brought “Contact” to the big screen, and Druyan himself. FilmNation Entertainment will be presenting at the upcoming cannes market

“Voyager” tells the story of NASA in 1977 as it prepared to launch humanity’s first interstellar probe. A team led by Sagan set out to create a message for a possible alien civilization, known as the Golden Record, which included music and images. But what begins as a race against the clock turns into a love story between Sagan and Druyan. FilmNation Entertianment paired Druyan, who married Sagan in 1981, with screenwriters Lelio and Jessica Goldberg. They then wrote the initial script based on interviews with Druyan and many others involved in the Gold Disc project.

Druyan and Sagan would go on to write “Cosmos,” an influential PBS series covering a wide range of scientific topics. Sagan died in 1996.

“As a nine-year-old boy growing up under the Chilean dictatorship, Carl Sagan and Andrew Young’s TV series ‘Cosmos’ had a profound impact on me, igniting my fascination with life’s biggest questions and mysteries,” Lay Leo said. “It was a dream of mine to make a film about the Gold Disc and its inspiring love story between Carl and Ann. I am delighted that Andrew Garfield and Daisy Edgar-Jones will be part of this film set in infinite time and space. central character of an epic romance.”

Lelio most recently co-wrote and directed “The Wonder,” starring Florence Pugh. His other credits include “Gloria Bell,” an English-language remake of Lelio’s “Gloria,” with Julianne Moore.

Garfield is back with Hacksaw Ridge and Tick Tock… Boom! was nominated for an Oscar and is currently producing John Crowley’s We Live in Time, in which he stars alongside Pugh. He recently starred opposite Edgar Jones in FX’s “Under the Flag of Heaven,” which earned him his first Emmy nomination and Edgar Jones her second. Ball Award nominations. She is best known for her performances in the Emmy-nominated drama “Ordinary People,” based on Sally Rooney’s best-selling novel, and last summer’s hit film “Where the Crayfish Sing.”
