Anne HecheHis death has been ruled an accident more than a week after he was seriously injured in a violent car crash in Los Angeles, city records show.
The 53-year-old actress died of inhalation and thermal injuries, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s department records. She also suffered a fractured sternum from blunt trauma, records say.
Heche’s death date is listed as August 11. That night, the actress was declared brain dead but was still on life support from organ donation, and her heart was still beating, her rep said at the time. Heche was taken off life support on Sunday, her representative said.
Heche was sitting alone in her car on Aug. 5 when she crashed into a home in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles, engulfing her car and house in flames, according to Los Angeles police and fire officials. No one else was injured in the single-vehicle crash, and the home’s resident and her pet were able to escape the blaze unharmed.
Herce suffered severe hypoxic brain damage and was in a critical condition after the crash, her family and friends said in a statement. Her family said Heche was not expected to survive her injuries, noting that “donating organs has always been an option for her.”
Blood draws done hours after the crash showed Heche had anesthesia in his system, but additional tests are being done to find out more about the drugs and rule out which might be due to drugs administered by medical staff. Los Angeles Police Department.
Investigators told ABC News that no alcohol was detected in Heche’s blood sample, although another blood sample was drawn hours after the crash.
Los Angeles Police Department investigators told ABC News on Aug. 12 that they had closed a criminal investigation due to the latest developments in Heche’s condition.
