Apparel group joins UAE race to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050

[ad_1]

  • Apparel group among first companies to sign UAE Alliance for Climate Action (UACA) pledge during COP 27
  • Apparel Group is making environmental initiatives a priority as it prepares for COP 28, to be held in Dubai, UAE.

Apparel Group, a leading global fashion and lifestyle retail group, has made significant progress by signing the UAE Climate Responsible Company Pledge, along with a number of leading organizations in the UAE. The pledge aims to increase private sector participation in the country’s decarbonization drive, in line with the UAE’s 2050 Net Zero Emissions Strategy initiative.

Apparel Group was one of the first companies to sign the UACA commitment. The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) launched the Global Alliance for Climate Action (ACA) in 2017; a global network of coalitions driven by a strong coalition of like-minded civil society advancing climate action. The UAE Alliance for Climate Action (UACA), the first coalition in the MENA region, will have the full support of Gonzalo Munoz and Manuel Pulgar Vidal. Earlier this year, the UAE Nature Foundation announced the UACA Commitment, a supporting implementation project of the MOCCAE Climate Responsibility Commitment, during COP 27.

The UAE Climate Responsible Company Pledge is a national commitment by private companies to set and achieve science-based targets to reduce their environmental impact in line with the UAE Government’s agenda to become carbon neutral by 2050. Apparel groups are prioritizing environmental initiatives for COP 28, which will be held in Dubai, UAE. The Dubai government plans to reduce carbon emissions by 31% by 2030. Apparel Group is developing a strategy that aligns with government goals.

Neeraj Teckchandani, CEO of Apparel Group, said: “Joining the UAE Climate Responsible Company Commitment and the UACA Global Commitment is closely aligned with Apparel Group’s strategy to embrace this vision and reaffirms our commitment to take enhanced steps to increase transparency and promote environmental protection. We look forward to Be part of this collaborative and collective effort between stakeholders, private companies and international entities.”

Apparel Group, a climate-conscious and responsible private company in the UAE, has committed to meet the challenge by:

· Measure and report its greenhouse gas emissions in a transparent manner, develop measurable plans to reduce our carbon footprint in line with national sectoral climate targets, and share these plans with the UAE government to contribute to achieving a national net zero emission goals;

· Make climate change mitigation and adaptation measures a core tenet of its business and operating model;

· Encourage and engage stakeholders such as suppliers; partners; and consumers; to actively engage in climate action and help the UAE achieve net zero emissions by 2050; and

· Adopt an inclusive approach that involves youth, women and vulnerable groups in society in developing net zero emissions plans.

Apparel Group’s net zero commitment will take the form of strategic planning and actions to ensure its operations achieve target or net zero carbon emissions by 2050, while influencing sustainable and measurable actions across the value chain.
