Sheikh Mohammed announced the winners during his inspiring speech.
A Jordanian teenager read 500,000 dirhams when he was announced as the winner of the 2021 Arab Reading Challenge. The 17-year-old Abdullah Abu Khalaf surpassed 21 million participants from 52 countries in the fifth edition of the annual challenge.

During the live TV ceremony, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, delivered an inspiring speech and awarded a total of 11 million dirhams in cash award.

The Al Ghoraib Basic Education School in Egypt won the “Best School” award of 1 million dirhams. This school is considered the best among the other 96,000 schools, making reading an integral part of the students’ lives.
Moza Al Ghanna from the United Arab Emirates won a 300,000 dirham “Outstanding Supervisor” award to maintain a high level of reading in her ward-especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. In this year’s challenge, she stood out from the 120,000 participating supervisors.
Heroes with special needs
In the category of Arab students living abroad, Alexander Voros from Italy was named the Arab reading champion.
Voros, a teenager with special needs, received a bonus of AED 100,000. His persistence and determination have inspired millions of people to learn Arabic, which is not his mother tongue.
