Archbishop of Wales recalls ‘surprise and joy’ from Queen Elizabeth | Entertainment

The Archbishop of Wales has paid tribute to the way Queen Elizabeth has continued to “surprise and delight” during her reign.

Archbishop Andrew John addresses the late monarch’s National Prayer and Reflection Service for Wales at Llandaff Cathedral on Friday (16/09/22) – King Charles and Queen Camilla and invited guests from across Wales Guests attended the ceremony and remembered Her Majesty’s life of grace and wisdom.

Referring to the Queen’s opening of the Senedd Building in 2006, the archbishop said “common traditions” were still important and the Queen’s example of grace and wisdom was needed to “build a prosperous and compassionate society”.

“Our roots as a people are deep, and our culture and language, stories and legends give us a unique heritage, but also point us to a future full of hope and potential,” he added.

He praised the Queen as a “tall figure” on the global stage and said she could “surprise and delight”, such as her surprise appearance at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics and her appearance with Paddington Bear at the Platinum Jubilee celebrations sketch. year.

He added: “We’ll never look at a jar of jam the same way again, or watch Mr Bond without remembering 2012 and jump in.”

The Archbishop also addressed the royal guests directly, acknowledging it was an honour to welcome them to Llandaff Cathedral.

“Today we also recognize the grief of our new king and his family. In their grief, we assure them of our love and care for them and our prayers,” he said.

Andrew ended his speech with a quote from the Queen.

He explained that following the death of her husband Prince Philip, the Queen said in her recent Christmas message: “It is this simplicity of the Christmas story that makes it so universally appealing: simple events make up the life of Jesus, he The teachings have been passed down from generation to generation and are the cornerstone of my faith.”

He added: “His birth marked a new beginning. As the carol says: “Tonight in you the hopes and fears of many years are fulfilled”, the Queen concluded.

The service was led by Llandaff Acting Dean Michael Comor, while Llandaff Bishop Joan Osborne led the prayer, which was also read by representatives of other churches and faith communities in Wales.
