Arewa youth against threat of UAE visa ban – The Sun Nigeria

[ad_1]

From Ndubuisi Orji, Abuja

Arewa Advisory Youth Movement (ACYM) protests against United Arab Emirates (UAE) threat to impose visa ban on Nigerians as foreign airlines, including Emirates, get stuck with funds.

In a statement on Friday, its president Kabiru Yusuf said the UAE’s threat to impose a visa ban on Nigerians was unfair and that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was already addressing the issue.

It praised CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele for Apex Bank’s efforts to support foreign airlines operating in the country. And called on the UAE to withdraw its threat to the visa ban.

“We applaud the efforts of the CBN in supporting foreign airlines. We take note of the statement issued by the Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele, that the United Arab Emirates has threatened to ban visas as airline funds are stuck in Nigeria.

“Although the CBN issued $110 million to foreign airlines in August and will release another $120 million on October 31.

“The CBN governor said that Nigeria has been prioritizing foreign airlines in the allocation of Fx for many years, adding that instead of taking responsibility with the country, some countries have threatened to ban Nigerians.

“Our position is that the UAE visa ban threat is unfair. We therefore call on the UAE authorities to reverse this decision and allow peace to rule,” the youth group said.
