Blue Fox Entertainment has acquired the North American rights to “Aristotle and Dante discover the secret of the universea strange coming-of-age story about two teenagers who form a special bond after a chance encounter one summer. The auction comes months after the premiere Toronto International Film Festival.
Blue Fox plans to release the film widely this summer, but no specific date has been set. Blue Fox’s International Division is responsible for international sales.

Filmmaker Ichi Alberto wrote and directed “Aristotle and Dante Explore the Secrets of the Universe,” her directorial debut. Based on the YA novel by Benjamin Alire Sáenz, it follows two Mexican-American teenage boys in El Paso in 1987 as they explore a new, unusual friendship and difficult self-discovery The story of the road. Newcomers Max Pelayo and Reese Gonzales star as Aristotle and Dante (their characters, yes, their classic names are linked), and include Eugenio Derbez, Eva Longoria, Veronica Falcón (“Ozark”) and Kevin Alejandro (“Fire Country”).
“It would be too easy to say it was a dream come true,” Alberto said. “This has been a life journey and I can’t wait to share this part of me with the world. I can only hope that audiences of all types see themselves in the film and that it ignites a sense of hope and empathy— — it reminds them that love sometimes, in fact, often takes unexpected forms. Lin-Manuel Miranda serves as a producer on the film through his company 5000 Broadway Productions. The “Hamilton” creator voiced Saenz’s novel and joined the film after Alberto reached out on social media.
“It’s been incredibly satisfying to bring this beautiful coming-of-age story to the big screen,” Miranda said. “Thanks to the extraordinary vision of our director/writer Aitch Alberto, Ari and Dante’s story has been brought to life for the big screen. Thanks to new voices and new stories.”
In addition to Miranda, the film’s executive producers include Limelight Productions’ Dylan Sellers and Chris Parker, Big Swing Productions’ Valerie Stadler, and 3Pas Studios’ Ben Odell and Eugenio Debez. Limelight is co-financing the film with Boies/Schiller Entertainment. Zack Schiller, David Boies, Kyra Sedgwick and Meredith Bagby also executive produce Alberto.
“At 3PAS, supporting new voices is very important to us, and we couldn’t be more proud of Aitch for bringing this beautiful story to life in the most authentic way possible and free from clichés,” said Derbez. “We can’t wait for viewers to meet Ari and Dante!”
The deal was negotiated between UTA Independent Film Group and WME. UTA stands for Alberto and Limelight.
Blue Fox Entertainment’s current US releases include the romantic comedy “Sex Ends,” starring Emily Hampshire, and the thriller “The Bunker.” Past releases include “The Wolf and the Lion,” the action-thriller “Killer,” starring Liam Hemsworth, and the Bill Nighy comedy “Sometimes Never.”
Before the film premiered at TIFF, Edge told type She wanted to make “a classic American movie that resonated with not just us Latinos, but everyone.”
