Armenia accuses Azerbaijan of ‘unspeakable atrocities’ at UN General Assembly

[ad_1]

Speaking at the United Nations on Thursday, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan accused Azerbaijan of committing “unspeakable atrocities” in the latest fighting between the two rivals, including dismembering the bodies of slain troops.

The biggest violence since the 2020 war came last week when fighting broke out between the Caucasus republics, killing around 300 people.

“There is evidence of torture, dismemberment of captured or deceased servicemen, and numerous extrajudicial cases kill and abuse of Armenian prisoners of war, as well as the degrading treatment of corpses,” he told the UN General Assembly.

“The bodies of Armenian female soldiers were dismembered and then proudly videotaped by Azerbaijani soldiers in a particularly brutal way.”

Pashinyan continued: “There is no doubt that such unspeakable atrocities were committed as a direct result of the decades-long policy of the political leadership to plant anti-Armenian hatred and hostility in Azerbaijani society.”

Furthermore, he claims that Azerbaijan shelled civilian infrastructure and installations deep within its national borders, forcing more than 7,600 people to flee their homes, leaving 3 civilians dead and 2 missing.

the two battles between Armenia And Azerbaijan, one in the 1990s and the other in 2020, fought in Nagorno-Karabakh, an Armenian-inhabited region of Azerbaijan.

In 2020, a six-week conflict that killed more than 6,500 people on both sides was halted by a Russia-brokered ceasefire.
