Arson Behind Wildfire on Spain’s Tourist Island

Canary Islands’ President Fernando Clavijo confirmed police findings of intentional ignition for the Tenerife wildfire. Investigations are underway, but arrests remain undisclosed. Favorable weather aided firefighters in controlling the blaze that has raged for five days, according to authorities.

Although the fire isn’t close to major tourist zones, evacuation of a state-run hotel occurred. Over 12,000 evacuated from homes; 11,600 hectares of forest burned.
