Art Dubai opens March 3

[ad_1]

Art Dubai will host its 16th edition at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai from 3-5 March, its largest ever, with more than 130 exhibitions from more than 40 countries and six continents.

The 2023 gallery program will feature four sections: Contemporary, Modern, Bawwaba (featuring brand new work) and Art Dubai Digital, with over 30 first-time entrants.

Benedetta Ghione, Executive Director of Art Dubai, commented: “Art Dubai has always sought to redefine art fairs and this year’s expansion reflects our role as a meeting point for the commercial and not-for-profit creative industries in the region. As an innovative public-private partnership partnership, we have been an incubator for talent, a catalyst for Dubai’s creative economy, a convener of great ideas, and an entry point for the wider cultural sector into this dynamic ecosystem.”

Further highlights planned for 2023 include art premieres by some of the art world’s most exciting names, and a series of 10 newly commissioned performance works from artists across South Asia. Produced in collaboration with Art Dubai’s galleries and several leading South Asian cultural organisations, these new site-specific productions will feature daily performances and food-based experiences exploring themes of community, celebration, hope and connection.

Plans for 2023 will feature more than 50 sessions in an ambitious program of daily meetings, presentations and education. Highlights include the flagship Global Art Forum, the first Dubai edition of the Christie’s Art + Tech Summit, a series of contemporary and collector talks developed in partnership with Dubai Collections, and a new event in partnership with the Art Business Conference focusing on sustainability.

Pablo del Val, Art Dubai’s Artistic Director, commented: “As the global art fair landscape shifts, Art Dubai continues to play an important role in portraying and supporting the cultural ecosystems of the Global South, and this year’s program reflects the region’s growing importance, vigor and vitality.

“One of our strongest gallery line-ups ever, complemented by an expanded commissioning and thought leadership program, highlights the breadth of discourse taking place here and offers glimpses into the past, present and future of this important region.”

The 2023 committee is scheduled to take place in a purpose-built space and will include daily performances and food-based experiences exploring themes of community, celebration, hope and connection.

Art Dubai 2023 marks the 10th edition of Art Campus Dubai (CAD), Art Dubai’s flagship program to develop future cultural leaders in the region and a core component of the fair’s extensive year-round educational programme. The 2023 edition will have both branches appearing at the same time. The first part, CAD Public Art, aims to build industry knowledge and competency in the fast-growing field of public art commissioning.

The second, CAD 10.0 Professional Development, will expand to include placements at Art Dubai and other major UAE cultural institutions, including Alserkal Avenue and Art Jameel in Dubai, as well as 421, an independent platform for emerging artists in Abu Dhabi.

Art Dubai 2023, organized in partnership with the Dubai Collection, will also feature a series of collector and contemporary talks. Collector talks will focus on the collectors and patrons who are driving the art scene of the Global South and supporting the redistribution of cultural centers around the world.

This year, Christie’s is partnering with Art Dubai to host the first regional Art + Technology Summit. Founded in 2018, the sixth summit – held in conjunction with Christie’s annual summit in New York.

In another first, Art Dubai has partnered with the prestigious Art Business Conference to host a special session at the fair focusing on the theme of sustainability in the art world. – trade arab news agency
