There are many arts, cultural and entertainment events taking place in Central Michigan.
Monday night is Halloween and the perfect time to celebrate a little spooky fun with all of us.
Trick-or-treating takes place in most cities in central Michigan from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays.
This includes Jackson, Lansing, Bath, Delta, Derry, DeWitt, East Lansing, Eaton Rapids, Meridian and St. Johns.
This coming Friday is the opening night of Shrek the Musical at the Portland Community Theatre.
Set in a mythical land long ago, Shrek the musical tells the story of a giant green ogre who retreats to the Living happily in isolation in an ugly green swamp.
It’s a hilarious musical where curses are reversed, monsters get girls, donkeys and dragons find love, and princesses come in all shapes and sizes.
If you’re around Owosso on Friday, you might want to check out the In Harmony – A Musical Variety Show at the Lebowsky Center.
The evening is the opening concert of the Raise Up Shiawassee fundraiser, to which the public is invited.
On Saturday night, the Lansing Symphony Orchestra highlighted some of the many paths and inspirations that music explored in the early 20th century.
The show includes everything from Claude Debussy’s Prelude to Foan’s Afternoon to Igor Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite.
Concert starts at 7:30pm
This weekend, a unique partnership was formed between the Wharton Center at Michigan State University and the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams, or FRIB for short.
Called Of Equal Place: Isotopes in Motion, it delves into ongoing research at FRIB while exploring topics that resonate in nuclear physics and dance.
The performance also highlights the contributions of youth, women and people of color to science through actors of various ages, ethnicities and cultural backgrounds.
The show starts at 1pm on Sunday.
Also at the Wharton Center, Mummenschanz, the mask troupe, is back to celebrate their 50th anniversary, attracting audiences of all ages in theaters around the world. The legendary visual theatre company invites audiences to journey through their history and future together.
The production will also include sketches with surprising new forms and characters that capture the iconic Mummenschanz spirit of infinite possibility and delight.
