The Pentagon authorized another 1,000 soldiers on Sunday to help evacuate American citizens and the Afghans who worked for them, expanding their physical security presence to nearly 6,000 soldiers in the next 48 hours.
European countries including France, Germany and the Netherlands also said that they are working hard to get citizens and some Afghan employees to leave the country.
Russia stated that it does not consider it necessary to evacuate its embassy for the time being. Turkey stated that its embassy will continue to operate.
