According to reports, at least 16 American missionaries, 5 of whom were children, were kidnapped at the Haiti airport on their way home after visiting the orphanage. ABC News report.

A source at the US Embassy told ABC News that officials said that a Haitian gang kidnapped 19 people at a checkpoint in Haiti while escaping from the airport. A source in the office of the President of Haiti stated that the kidnapping took place at the intersection of “Carrefour Bonn” and “La Tremblay 17.”

According to reports, 16 of the kidnapped groups were American missionaries from Ohio. According to the US Embassy, the other three were kidnapped, including a Canadian missionary and two Haitian citizens.

Sources said that earlier in the day, two French priests were also kidnapped in a separate attack at the same location. The Haitian government suspects that the group known as 400 Mawozo was behind the kidnapping.

It is unclear where the victims were taken, and there is no immediate update on their current status. The embassy is working with a special team of Americans in the country that is investigating the kidnapping.

The Ohio-based Christian Aid Department confirmed in a statement that 17 people were “kidnapped” on the way to the orphanage on Saturday.

“We request urgent prayers for the Christian Aid staff who were kidnapped during a visit to the orphanage on Saturday, October 16,” the statement read on Sunday. “We are seeking God’s instructions to solve the problem, and the authorities are seeking ways to help.

According to the Associated Press, the group was also accused of kidnapping five priests and two nuns earlier this year.

We pray for the victims and their families, hoping that they will return home safely. We will promptly notify you of any updates.
