At least 29 people have been confirmed dead due to tornadoes and record floods caused by Hurricane Ida in New York and New Jersey

Earlier this week, Hurricane Ida caused severe damage to the Gulf Coast, causing millions of people to lose power in New Orleans, and the East Coast is now feeling the consequences.

According to NBC News, at least 29 people have died between New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. These states and surrounding areas are facing tornadoes and record floods and rainfall.

NBC News reported that there was a 2-year-old child among the dead. “Four women, three men, and a 2-year-old boy were killed in five separate floods in the city, the police said. According to New York Police Commissioner Dermot Shea, all eight were killed All of them lived in Queens and died in the basement of their residence.”

Mayor Bill de Blasio issued a statement and expressed condolences at a press conference on Thursday. “Our hearts aches for the lives lost in the storm last night. Please take them and their loved ones to heart today,” he said. “They are our compatriots in New York, and for their families, in the days to come, your city will be by your side.”

New York State Governor Kathy Hochul also delivered a speech and said that they “are revealing the true depth of the loss.”

She also said: “I don’t want this to happen again. “We have not experienced this before, but we should look forward to the next time. “

With the remnants of Hurricane Ida sweeping the north, New York City issued a flash flood emergency for the first time.

“What needs to be clear is… this special warning to New York City is the second time we issued a flash flood emergency (this is the first time in New York City). The first time we issued a flash flood emergency was for New Jersey an hour ago. In the northeastern part of the state, the Meteorological Service is headquartered in Upton,” according to abc7ny.com.

Roommates, please let everyone be affected in prayer.
