It’s refreshing to see festivals reemerging recently, especially younger, smaller ones. The September Day festival, in particular, started after last year’s AthFest music and arts festival was canceled, leaving musicians suddenly without performances. Despite the tragedy, public hunger remains unfulfilled and unfulfilled. Thus, the first September festival named after a modern skirt song was born. Pieced together in a relatively short period of time by Aubrey Entertainment, the festival features AthFest’s roster of noteworthy talent.
Now, nearly a year after its humble beginnings, the September days are back with stacked lineups headlined by nationally known groups. On September 16, Florida indie pop group Flipturn will feature local bands The Getaway Company, AD Blanco and Well Kept, as well as former Athens bands Neighbor Lady and Hotel Fiction. On September 17, T. Hardy Morris, Girlpuppy and Vision Video hit the stage and made headlines. The Head, Drew Beskin & The Sunshine, The Echolocations, Cannon and the Boxes, Five Eight, Wim Tapley & The Cannons, Lighthearted and Heffner will perform earlier in the day.
It seems that despite growing in the intervening year, Septemberdays has been intentionally maintaining focus on the community and its artists. Lots of local talent will take to the stage, with a portion of ticket sales going to the Goodmood Fund, an organisation dedicated to providing emergency aid to indie touring musicians experiencing financial hardship. The Atlanta-based nonprofit, launched in 2021 by musician Jack Shaw (The Head), issues grants to pay for rent or mortgage payments, home repairs due to natural disasters, funeral costs, stolen or damaged property equipment, etc.
