Hutto in suburban Austin will welcome its first movie theater in 2024. Full details were revealed at the Hutto City Council meeting on January 19, announcing EVO Entertainment Group The latest ground prototype will be part of the ongoing expansion of Townwest Commons.
The Austin-based entertainment group is the fastest-growing theater chain in the United States. EVO Entertainment Group opened one location in 2014 and has since expanded to 18 locations in five states.
South of the Hutto YMCA, off US Highway 79 near SH 130, the new Hutto location will be the company’s first post-Covid ground-breaking building, breaking ground this spring and scheduled to open in early 2024. The 53,300-square-foot venue will feature eight theaters (including the EVX Enhanced Viewing Experience format), 10 bowling lanes and 7,200 square feet of games, attractions and virtual reality — not to mention bar lounges, courtyards and private events space out.
“As an Austin-based company, we’re proud to be part of the Hutto community,” said Mitch Roberts, founder and CEO of EVO Entertainment Group, in a release. The family is well aligned with our strategic growth plan for 2023 and beyond. “
The $25 million project is expected to create at least 40 full-time equivalent jobs and will have a significant economic impact on the region. City of Hutto Economic Development Director Bob Farley shared in a news release that the project is estimated to generate $3 million in annual sales tax revenue — an increase of about 25 percent over Hutto’s current sales tax revenue — in addition to producing real estate taxes.
“The Hutto Economic Development Corporation, along with city leaders, made a promise to our community that we would bring them an entertainment venue for all ages, and we delivered,” Farley said in the release. “EVO is the perfect partner to start a new wave of strategic growth that will benefit the quality of life in the Hutto community for many years to come.
