James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ opens in India today (Dec. 16) and box office sold Rs. 3 crore net worth, according to Box Office India. In the south, including smaller cities such as Vijayawada, Coimbatore, Kurnur and Tirupati, advance bookings were unusually high.
Even though the movie didn’t do as well as films like Doctor Strange, RRR, Brahmastra Part One Shiva, and KGF Chapter 2 from the Multiverse of Madness, it still made more money thanks to a higher average ticket price. For some IMAX shows, tickets can cost up to Rs. 2,500, which is lower than the box office of Hollywood box office giants such as the Avengers series produced by Marvel in India.
A similar trend is emerging in the U.S., where the sequel to James Cameron’s world’s highest-grossing film is projected to take in $17 million from its Thursday night opening, putting it on par with “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. ” ($17 million) is in the same bracket as Jurassic World ($18.5 million) and Batman ($17.6 million). That’s significantly lower than front-end superhero flicks like “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” ($28 million), but that’s considered a good thing, as superhero fare topped $28 million in its first weekend. There was also a sharp decline thereafter. On the other hand, “Avatar 2” is expected to gain sustained ratings, and viewers will choose the best media to watch Cameron’s grand event.
The movie had sold 5,49,774 tickets as of Thursday morning, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. “Avatar *National Chain*’s Advance Reservation* Status [#PVR, #INOX, #Cinepolis]…until Thursday, 10am…⭐️ F: 2,30,317⭐️ S: 1,72,720⭐️ S: 1,46,737⭐️ Total tickets sold: 5,49,774.
