Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched Clean Energy Accelerator 3.0, a high-velocity, non-dilutive accelerator designed to facilitate collaboration with established startups developing breakthrough clean energy technologies.
Karla Hurst, Amazon’s vice president of global sustainability, made the announcement during a session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2022 (COP27), recently held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
The International Energy Agency has determined that 40 percent of the CO2 reductions needed to bring the world to net-zero emissions by 2050 rely on technologies that have not yet been implemented commercially on a large scale. This is especially important to achieve ambitious climate goals such as the UAE’s 2050 Net Zero Plan.

While the energy sector has made strides in developing clean energy technologies, there is still a long way to go to meet the world’s decarbonization goals. AWS Clean Energy Accelerator 3.0 is focused on meeting the needs of sophisticated entrepreneurs around the world to foster co-innovation through energy collaboration.
The program will consist of 12 weeks of virtual and in-person training beginning in Seattle in the second quarter of 2023. Its reach and breadth will grow with two more cohorts and international exchange sprints to create technology innovation hubs around the world, including one in the UAE with Masdar City.
“The path to rapid decarbonization is not easy or straightforward, and we need to work with and underscore the companies driving the development of clean energy technologies,” Hurst said. Startups are at the forefront of many innovations that will help accelerate the energy transition. In Clean Energy With the accelerator’s support, this year’s teams will be able to tackle the toughest challenges faster and create a cleaner, healthier planet.”
Sales direction
Energy, digital capabilities, investment, public policy, innovation and cutting-edge research are just some of the topics that industry and thought leaders will cover as they guide companies through the programme.
While AWS will provide direction on how to accelerate experimentation, scale automation, and deliver insights through the use of the cloud, leading energy companies will partner with selected startups to address sustainable energy and decarbonization issues.
Selected finalists will receive technical, business, and go-to-market coaching from AWS and receive up to $100,000 in AWS Credits through AWS Activate to jump-start cloud-based data and operations transformation.

Selected businesses will receive help on how to build solution alignment and accelerate experimentation using Amazon’s culture of innovation and working backwards. Supporting partners will also provide exposure and general assistance to finalists. The program will conclude with an innovation showcase during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 28) in Dubai in November 2023. — trade arab news agency
