Back to school in Abu Dhabi: The students were excited when they returned to the live classes on the first day-News

Parents who send their children directly to school must also show negative PCR test results for themselves, except for their children.

After months of distance learning at home due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the students of the Abu Dhabi school returned to the campus smoothly and excitingly on August 29 to participate in on-site courses.

At 7 o’clock on Sunday morning, the school bus transporting students from grades 2 to 12 began to arrive at Al Basma British School in the Al Bahia area of Abu Dhabi.

Before allowing the children to board the bus, the school bus supervisor said that they ensured that each child had a negative PCR test result, which they confirmed in the Al Hosn app on the parents’ mobile phones.

Parents who send their children directly to the school must also show that their PCR test results are negative to the security guards at the entrance before being allowed to enter the school building, except for the children. The same applies to teachers and administrators who report on the first day the school reopens.

Dalia Malik, a 12th grade student in the UAE, said: “After studying at home for a long time, I am very happy to return to school.”

The 17-year-old child was vaccinated with two doses of Covid vaccine and arrived on campus at 7:30 in the morning by bus.

“After the vaccination, I feel safe to return to school. I am very happy to meet my friends. I miss them very much,” she said.

“I also missed physics studies because it helps me concentrate more than distance courses.”

Filipino student Hanah Sitchon, 11 years old, is in the 7th grade at the same school. She said that she also missed her classmates.

“It feels great to go back to school for physical education. I miss my friends and school activities.”

Allison McDonald, principal of Al Basma British School, said that they have worked hard to ensure that the first day of school goes as smoothly as possible.

“Among the 1,700 students in the school, we received 500 students on the first day, because we hope that children and parents will be familiar with the measures of sports learning first,” she said, adding that the school will provide face-to-face daily meetings with participants. The students in the course study together face to face. However, in the first week, they decided to start with a hybrid learning model.

Some parents experience delays in receiving their children’s PCR test results. Therefore, the school recommends that students return to campus for physical education the next day (Monday) after receiving the required test results.

MacDonald confirmed that the school has taken all measures to ensure the safety of students on campus, and that more than 95% of teachers and other school staff have been vaccinated.

Algerian parent Kader Belmahdi took his two children to study in the 3rd and 5th grades. He said he believes that the children are safer in class now.

“Since the last school year, the school has shown a commitment to health and safety measures,” he said.

“The government has also considered our opinions on child safety and education.”
