Returning balls is a good judge of a bowler’s reflexes, finding non-strikers unaware is another: UAE’s Rohan Mustafa does it twice on the same ball, but it’s not quite what you want like that.
Just finished six ICC World Cup Qualifier Play-off, In the inaugural tournament, the US and UAE advance to World Cup qualifiers in June before the main event in October. The game wasn’t without drama: From excess fines to referee growlerThere are usually offers for most multi-team activities.
It was a tough match after all: two cricketers from the United States and one from Jersey were even penalized for breaching the International Cricket Council’s code of conduct, ranging from “audible obscenities” ’ to ‘inappropriate physical contact’ to ‘irritate the batsman’.
But there are also some cheeky schoolboy antics.
All-rounder Mustafa was fairly quiet in the UAE’s game against Jersey last week. He died for a three-ball duck and took just one wicket — though he did squeeze a moment of laughter out of the second wicket.
When jersey opener Harrison Carlyon passed the ball back to Mustafa in the 21st inning, the bowler handled it like a hot potato, juggling the ball twice before completing the tackle. He didn’t stop there – with the ball in hand, he tapped Josh Lawrenson’s belly kit, giving the non-forward a cheeky scare.
Mustafa was clearly proud of his prank, and he erupted, as did referee Isaac Oyieko, goalkeeper Aryansh Sharma, and most importantly, Lawrenson himself.
It doesn’t quite qualify as a non-striker run out, but you can call it “Mustafa”!
The qualifier play-offs did have some unpleasantness, but that’s about it, considering even Harrison Carlyon found it funny, I say keep playing 😂 pic.twitter.com/UoiRuPZRia
