Opting to bat first in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup qualifier final, Bangladesh shot 120/8 thanks to a 55-under 61 by Fargana Hoque.

Only one Bangladeshi batsman managed to reach double figures as Ireland produced a striking bowling display.

Fargana had more than half of her team running from the top of the table, but a lack of support and frequent wickets at the other end meant she couldn’t get up to speed as Bangladesh finished first at 120/8 hit the ball.

Skipper Laura Delany dribbled for Ireland at 3/27, while Arlene Kelly and Cara Murray scored a few wickets each.

In response, Sanguida Ackert and Nashida Ackert cut Ireland’s odds to 24/3, knocking out the top seed in Europe.

Delany and Eimear Richardson tried to fight, but Bangladesh struck again to sink Ireland further.

It was Kelly and Murray who injected late momentum into the Irish innings, taking them from 76/8 to within touch distance of the target.

The partnership gave Ireland hope of a title win in qualifiers, but a 15-point deficit in the final remains a huge requirement, and they ended up losing by seven points.
