Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has sought LNG supply and investment from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in special economic zones, high-tech parks and the establishment of warehouses and hypermarkets in Bangladesh.
Ahmed bin Ali Sayegh, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met with Foreign Minister Momin on the sidelines of the IORA ministerial meeting in Dhaka on Thursday and discussed bilateral issues of mutual interest.
The Minister of State highly appreciated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership of Bangladesh’s socio-economic development.
He emphasized strengthening cooperation in trade and investment, aviation and shipping links, agriculture, food security, energy, pharmaceuticals, information technology, reforestation, mangrove alliances, renewable energy, and improving the efficiency of energy systems.
Muman thanked the UAE Minister of State for his visit to Bangladesh to participate in the IORA meeting, and expressed satisfaction with the UAE’s cooperation and the outcome of the IORA meeting.
He also lauded the tremendous development of the UAE under the visionary leadership of the late UAE President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Momen said the Bangladeshi government is keen to establish a direct flight between Chittagong and Dubai to facilitate the growth of bilateral trade.
He highlighted the potential to export potatoes, mangoes, pineapples, pharmaceuticals and IT services to the UAE.
Momin called on the UAE to strongly support the repatriation of the Rohingya to Myanmar.
The State Minister thanked the Foreign Minister for all possible hospitality during his visit to Bangladesh.
