Bangladesh’s climate officials said that Bangladesh plans to propose a “climate prosperity plan” aimed at reducing the impact of global warming on economic development in the forthcoming United Nations climate negotiations in Glasgow.
The plan envisages promoting the development of renewable energy, making agriculture more resistant to climate shocks, and finding natural solutions to the challenges brought about by global warming, such as restoring mangroves to protect the coast from hurricanes.
The South Asian country said it would encourage other equally vulnerable countries to make their own plans.
Representatives from more than 200 countries will hold the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP26, in Glasgow, Scotland, from October 31st to November 12th to discuss new targets for reducing or curbing the increase in emissions that cause climate change.
Most of Bangladesh’s 160 million people are crowded in low-lying areas along the Bay of Bengal, which are considered particularly prone to flooding, extreme weather, and loss of farmland due to rising sea levels.

Azad also called on governments to update emission reduction targets every year. He said that the speed of climate degradation and the impact of global warming far outweighed efforts to fight it.
Azad said that extreme weather not only brought damage to developing countries, but also to developed countries. He said the cost of the failure of the upcoming climate negotiations would be “very destructive.”
“As far as I know, there is no room for failure. We must achieve. We must succeed,” Azad said.
