A small community by the water is losing the ability to play live music as the city of Naples says they violated their entertainment license.
Last year, the city said they had live entertainment on Wednesdays and they could only do it Thursday through Sunday.
The people WINK News met were not happy, and they felt that live music brought people together and made the Bayfront community unique.
Bayfront has it all, bay view apartments, marina shops, restaurants, bars and live entertainment.
However, at a Naples City Council meeting on Wednesday, the city stripped Bayfront of its license after two official violations. Those who work at Bayfront, like Nick Costanza, say it’s bad for business.
“Oh yeah, it brings in a whole bunch of people, and it’s also more fun for us as workers,” Costanza said.
Documents from December show a live band playing on Wednesdays.
Permits are only allowed between 12pm and 9pm Thursday through Sunday.
The second breach occurred in May, when officers on patrol took noise level readings that exceeded the allowable levels.
The property’s owner, Kevin Stoneburner, said those noise decimals could be affected by surrounding sounds, such as noisy cars.
Bayfront employee Prestin Speers shared some thoughts on what’s going on with WINK News.
“It’s kind of sad that they want to revoke our license when we’re bringing such a small community together,” Spears said.
Bayfront resident Andrew Martorano explained his thinking from a different angle.
“I don’t think the minority should represent the majority,” Martorano said.
As for what’s next, we’re not sure yet, but the owners say the decision was unreasonable and unfair.
