Baz Luhrmann inspired by ‘cheesy’ Elvis movies | Entertainment

[ad_1]

Baz Luhrmann credits Elvis’ “cheesy” films for inspiring his directing style.

The filmmaker’s latest project is a big-screen biopic of the musical icon starring Austin Butler, as Buzz opens up about his love for Elvis’ Hollywood career, which includes 1953’s “Love Me Tenderly,” 1961 Year’s “Love Me” and other movies. 1964’s “Blue Hawaii” and “Viva Las Vegas.”

Buzz revealed that he was a big fan of Elvis movies growing up in Australia, telling Who magazine: “When we had cinemas, what I liked about Elvis was probably all the cheesy movies that I thought were genius works, and I I’m starting to realize that’s probably why my films look the way they are.”

The director admitted that although he was a big Elvis fan in his youth, his musical tastes changed later in life before he returned to the king.

He explained: “I obviously just liked the ’70s stuff, but then he was very out of my life, very into David Bowie and Elton, and he became a little bit like being there, but I wasn’t that into it.

“It’s not like I’m one of those ‘you don’t say anything (bad) about Elvis until the day I die’. He’s beyond music, he’s cultural wallpaper, and (I) think my job is Peel off the wallpaper…”

Buzz recently revealed that he made a four-hour director’s cut of his film “Elvis.”

he admits collider website: “I have a four-hour version. I shouldn’t say that, but I have…I have to make a two-and-a-half hour version, I have to serve the main art…it’s an assembly. the same movie.”
