Ben Crump Is Representing The Families Of The Bronx Fire Victims

[ad_1]

Last month the lives of several families were changed forever when multiple lives were lost due to the deadly Bronx apartment fire. As we previously reported, 17 people, including eight children, passed away, and at least five dozen others were injured. This was due to a malfunctioning electric space heater, which started the fire on January 9th.

Initially, two of the survivors, Rosa Reyes and Felix Martinez, were the first to have a lawsuit filed on their behalf. In the suit, they alleged the landlords were aware of the “defective conditions” and failed to keep up with the conditions. The survivors are asking for a significant amount in the lawsuit for $1 billion in damages from the owners of the building and the managers.

However, new reports show that victims’ loved ones have filed additional lawsuits and hired high-powered civil rights attorney Ben Crump to take on the task. Last week, APNews reported that five new lawsuits were filed by Benjamin Crump and the New York law firm Weitz & Luxenberg.

In a recent press conference, Attorney Crump stated, “We have a lot of the families who paid such a tragic loss in the apartment fire.” He added the violations of city safety rules caused unspeakable loss of life and injury to these families, mostly from Africa. He continued, “These Black families who lost so much that seems to be marginalized not only before the tragic fire broke out, but even in the aftermath.”

Reports also show the lawsuits, filed in Superior Court in the Bronx, named Bronx Park Phase III Preservation, the Bronx Phase III Housing Co., and three investment groups as defendants. At this time, the lawsuits do not specify monetary damages or specific safety violations. Roommates, we will continue to keep you updated as the case is ongoing.
