Abu Dhabi: Dozens of people have been trying to win the Abu Dhabi jackpot over the years, and an Indian national from the city of Bengaluru has won the AED20 million (Rs 445,562,400) jackpot in the Abu Dhabi weekly draw.
The winner of the draw, Arun Kumar Vatakke Koroth – won after purchasing ticket number 232936 for draw ticket number 248 on March 22.
Koros won the prize on his second attempt, according to the lottery organizers in a release. However, when he got a call from the host of the show announcing his big prize, Koroth thought it was a prank call. He immediately hung up the phone and blocked the number.
After winning the lottery, Koroth said he was “still in disbelief”.
“I can’t believe I won number one. I’m still in disbelief. I bought this ticket through the buy two get one free option. The ticket I won was number three,” Koroth told harrij times
.
He intends to use the money to fulfill his long-standing dream of starting a business.
Not only Koroth, but another Indian national, Suresh Mathan, who lives in Bahrain, also won the second prize of AED 100,000 (Rs 22,27,805). Mohammad Shafiq, an Indian citizen residing in the Sultanate of Oman, won the third prize of AED 90,000 (Rs 20,05,025).
AED15 million in prize money remains to be won in the live draw in May.
Big Ticket customers will also be automatically entered into the weekly e-draw and stand a chance to be one of three winners to win AED 100,000 (Rs 22,48,784) each week.
Tickets can be purchased online through the Big Ticket website or at shop counters at Abu Dhabi International Airport and Al Ain Airport.
