• The Athena Music and Art Library will hold an opening reception for a new exhibit on Friday, September 9 at 6:30 pm at 1008 Wall Street, La Jolla. “Continuum: The Art of Faiya Fredman” is an insight into the life work of Fredman (1925-2020), whose 70-year artistic career has produced an eclectic series of works driven by experiments with unusual formats and unconventional materials. “Derrick Posier: Careers” is a visual survey of the various occupations of humor presented in Posier’s characteristic mind. “Towards One Hundred” Featured in the Erika and Fred Torri artist book collection at Athenaeum. • Warwick’s bookstore presents La Jollans Nelson Turia and Barbara Bry Tuesday, September 13 at 7:30 p.m. at 7812 Girard Ave., La Jolla. Senturia and Bry will launch and sign their new book on businesswomen in San Diego, “I Did It: The Largest Woman-Run Ponzi Scheme in American History” Gina Champion-Cain. • Presented by the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art “Alexis Smith: The American Way” Beginning Thursday, September 15 at 700 Prospect St., La Jolla. The exhibition is the first retrospective of the California-based artist Smith in 30 years. Smith is known for his mixed-media collages, which draw heavily on film, literature and popular culture.
