While the never-ending war on drugs continues, the Biden Administration is reportedly finalizing the funding needed to provide crack pipes to drug addicts as part of its Harm Reduction Plan, according to the DailyMail.
The US Department of Health & Human Services intends to provide grants for programs that hand out crack pipes to drug addicts in hopes of keeping drug users safe, which is said to hopefully limit infections among drug users.
The grants will be part of a $30 million Biden administration program that includes money for not-for-profit groups to purchase “safe smoking kits/supplies according to a report in the Washington Free Beacon,” Fox 11 LA reports.
It’s also reported that the pipes would encourage people to smoke drugs instead of injecting them because injections are said to run a higher risk.
This comes on the same day it was announced that the Justice Department stated it may consider allowing people to use heroin and other drugs at safe injection sites.
Back in November of 2021, New York City opened two safe injection sites. “The two Manhattan sites were already operating as needle exchange programs, and some residents in the communities have previously raised concerns about the decision to place the sites in less affluent areas of the borough,” the New York Times reported.
Other cities–Boston, Seattle, and San Francisco– are also on board with safe injection sites.
Roomies, what do you think of this?
