Big Freedia to open new entertainment venue Hotel Freedia in New Orleans: “My Dream”

[ad_1]

Big Freedia plans to open a new entertainment venue in New Orleans. The new center near Decatur Street and Frenchman Street will include restaurants, music clubs, swimming pools and a micro-boutique hotel, nora reports.

“This dream of mine has been brewing for a long time,” Friedia tweeted. “I will be one of the first Black hotel owners in New Orleans and I will let you all know the official opening date, can’t wait to see you all at the Friedia Hotel.”

Zach Kupperman, who owns the building that will be converted into an entertainment center, is developing the concept with Freedia and several other local investors, according to Nola. Hotel Freedia, expected to open in 2024, will have just five rooms. Despite its name, the building will be more of a music club and bar serving food. The venue will also include an outdoor pool party space.

“Hotels are not its economic driver,” Reid Martin, Freedia’s manager and partner on the project, told Nola. “It’s primarily a music venue and pool party venue. Think of a country club with a music venue.”

The new entertainment center will host performances by Freedia, as well as performances by other local and national artists.

“Obviously, Frenchmen Street is about local music, so we want to play a lot of local music, but we’re also interested in throwing in some ethnic music,” Martin said.

Fridia said the idea for the project came about during the pandemic.

“Without being able to go out and work during the pandemic, cooking brought so much light and creativity. It really got me interested in opening a restaurant,” Friedia said. “And I’ve always dreamed of opening a hotel, so that’s how it came together.”

The restaurant and concert hall are located on the first floor, while the hotel rooms are on the second floor. The swimming pool and clubhouse will be located in the adjacent open space. The rebuild cost about $5 million, Martin said.

Hotel Freedia also plans to sell memberships via NFT. However, Martin said membership isn’t necessarily limited to NFT holders.
