Stokes, a writer, director and producer, won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series this year for her work on HBO’s acclaimed sketch comedy series Black Ladies Sketch Show, becoming the first black woman to conquer the category. She directed every episode of Season 3 of the series created by Thede and serves as its co-executive producer.
Stokes also most recently served as co-executive producer and directed multiple episodes of Apple Hello Jack!kindness show. She is probably best known for directing and producing the film boy geniusstarring partial blackMiles Brown of , who won the Mira Nair Award for Emerging Female Filmmaker at the Harlem Film Festival, also worked on a Netflix feature lost husband and rachel chasmand independent plays volunteer. She is represented by UTA and Zero Gravity Management.
Thede, a five-time Emmy nominee, is the first and only black woman to create an Emmy-nominated sketch series Black Ladies Sketch Show, as its showrunner, executive producer, writer and star. She recently signed a multi-year overall deal with HBO, HBO Max and Warner Bros., and is represented by WME and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
