According to Reuters, an explosion occurred in the Afghan capital Wazir Akbar Khan area, interior ministry spokesman Bismullah Habib confirmed. The blast was heard near an area of ​​the capital that was once home to the city’s “green zone”, where many foreign embassies and NATO are based. It is now controlled by the ruling Taliban.

The blast shook the Afghan capital as worshippers left the mosque, TOLOnews reported, adding that the number of casualties was not yet known.

During Friday prayers in recent months, there have been several deadly bombings at mosques, some of which have been claimed by the Islamic State.
