Firefighters rescued a blind 13-year-old dog that fell into a hole in a California construction site.
The dog, named Cesar, lives next to the Pasadena site with its owner, KABC-TV reported.
Cesar’s owner Marie, who declined to give her last name, said the dog was apparently wandering the scene.
Around 7 p.m. Tuesday, Cesar fell into a hole about 15 feet.
Mary was startled by the barking of another dog. Cesar responded, and she could hear that he was no longer in her own yard. Pasadena search and rescue teams responded quickly to the scene.
Confined space rescue is a unique challenge for firefighters, said Pasadena Fire Chief Chad Augustine.
“We need to do a lot to make it as safe as possible. Not just for the dogs, but for our rescuers,” Mr Augustine said.
The team connected a series of ropes and pulleys to lower a team member into the hole. It took team members about 12 minutes to locate the dog, secure him in a harness, and bring him back to the surface.
Cesar appeared healthy after being rescued from the hole, uninjured. He shook off the heavy construction dirt and dust and was reunited with his owner on site.
