A plot involving dogs, booty and drugs has landed a Bollywood actor in a UAE prison.
Chrisann Pereira, currently in Sharjah Central Prison, was arrested at Sharjah airport on 1 April for drugs contained in souvenirs he was carrying. However, the Mumbai Crime Branch has now found out that the actor was allegedly framed for a fight with a dog.
Police have arrested two people, Anthony Paul, the owner of the bakery, and Rajesh Bohart, the assistant general manager of a bank. Rajesh was arrested today, the day after Anthony was arrested.
The men, residents of Mira Road in the Mumbai suburb, were also accused of demanding money for Ms Pereira’s release after she was arrested.
“Anthony booked her a plane ticket to Sharjah. He also gave her a fake return ticket,” said Senior Inspector Deepak Savant of the Crime Unit.
Preliminary investigations by the crime unit revealed that the sister of the defendant Anthony had an argument with the actor’s mother over the dog. They both live in the same building. At one point, her mother also had an argument with Anthony over the dog.
Police suspect the actor was allegedly a drug mule for the same issue.
Anthony allegedly approached the actor through Rajesh, who was posing as a talent consultant, and told her to audition for the web series in Sharjah.
The defendant also asked her to carry a trophy in which he stashed contraband, police said. She was told the souvenirs were audition props.
“He handed out the trophy by hiding marijuana and poppy seeds in it so he could be caught there. After she landed, he called Sharjah airport and she was caught,” the official said.
Anthony and Rajesh conspired to entrap at least five people in a similar manner, police said.
They were also accused of framing the DJ – Clayton Rodriguez – by giving him a cake laced with drugs.
The defendant has been handed over to police custody until 2 May.
