[ad_1]

Three people were killed and four others were injured when a bomb exploded on a roadside in Thailand’s restive southern hinterland, police said on Tuesday.

Seven State Railways employees are on their way to repair a section of track in Songkhla province, near the Malaysian border, that was damaged in another bomb attack on Saturday.

The latest bomb was hidden about 200 meters from the site of the earlier explosion.

“We believe the bomb has been there since Saturday,” police Colonel Chartchai Chanasit said, adding that no other explosive devices were found.

A low-level conflict has been brewing in southern Thailand since 2004, killing more than 7,000 people, as rebels in the Muslim-majority region vie for greater autonomy for the country.

The region – closely policed by Thai security forces – is culturally very different from the Buddhist-majority Thailand that controlled the region more than a century ago.

Last month, a car bomb exploded outside a police residence, killing one person and injuring more than two dozen before the explosion.
