Leading global and domestic experts, researchers, scientists and stakeholders will gather in Abu Dhabi at the end of this month for a forum to discuss the latest scientific and technological advances in rain enhancement research.
The National Center of Meteorology (NCM), through the UAE Research Program on Rain Enhancement Science (UAEREP), has announced the sixth International Rain Enhancement Forum (IREF) to be held on 24-26 January 2023.
As a leading event addressing pressing water and sustainable development issues around the world, IREF provides a platform to discuss the latest developments and efforts to find innovative solutions to water security issues by promoting scientific understanding of rainfall enhancement and sharing knowledge program while emphasizing the UAE as a global hub for rainfall enhancement.
Dr Abdulla Al Mandous, Director of NCM and President of Regional Association II (Asia) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), said: “We are proud to host the 6th International Rainfall Enhancement Forum as a means of strengthening international cooperation in this important area. In addition to discussing the latest developments in UAEREP’s 11 winning projects, the sixth IREF will examine water security challenges on the global climate agenda, as well as opportunities and challenges for implementing rainfall enhancement models and technologies.
The forum will cover new approaches and innovations in rainfall enhancement as well as regional and global developments in rainfall enhancement by hosting representatives from countries implementing rainfall enhancement programs and projects and discussing key lessons learned and success stories from around the world.
As part of the agenda, university students will have the opportunity to present their innovative research projects to a group of world-renowned scientists in the field of weather modification and precipitation enhancement.
The event will also announce the launch of the 5th round of the UAEEREP Awards and provide an in-depth discussion on the categories and priorities for the next cycle.
The UAE Research Program on Rain Enhancement Science is a research program initiated by the UAE Ministry of Presidential Affairs and managed by the National Center of Meteorology (NCM).
Through its activities, the program has established strong links with more than 1,800 researchers from more than 800 institutions in 70 countries on four continents.
