Boris Johnson takes on Leonardo DiCaprio over London pollution plans World News

[ad_1]

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to face off with Leonardo DiCaprio over London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s decision to target motorists by expanding London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (Ulez).

In a letter to The Daily Telegraph, the former prime minister and a group of Conservative MPs criticized London’s mayor for “smashing and looting” drivers following his decision to extend the low emission zone across greater London. It will mean thousands of drivers will have to pay £12.50 a day because their vehicles do not meet the minimum pollution standards.

Boris Johnson’s meddling has Hollywood A-lister Leonardo DiCaprio praising London’s mayor on Twitter, saying: “[It] It will mean 5 million more people breathing cleaner air and will help build a better, greener and fairer London for everyone. This is the massive decision-making action we need to take to halve emissions within this decade while implementing nature-based solutions. “

Leonardo DiCaprio also earlier in 2019 praised London Mayor Sadiq Khan for “leading the charge in tackling London’s air pollution”, adding that “clean air is a human right.”

“Ulez was never intended to apply outside of London. It was a robbery attack on a driver’s wallet, not about air quality, but about Khan’s mismanagement [Transport for London’s] financial. And it comes at the worst time for household income,” however, the lawmakers said.
