“Blonde” producer plan B Entertainment is looking for a new blueprint.production banners by Brad Pitt Dede Gardner has hired Moelis & Co. to find a buyer or potential investor.
The company has a TV-first deal with Amazon Studios and a movie deal with MGM Studios.
A representative for Moelis & Co. declined to comment. A representative for Plan B could not be immediately reached for comment.
Incubated in late 2001, Plan B was a partnership between Pitt and actor Jennifer Aniston, about four months after the two married in July 2001. Pitt eventually took over the joint venture after the two split in 2005.
Plan B has been fruitful over the past two decades, as banners have involved projects such as 2006’s Infernal Affairs, 2015’s The Big Short, 2013’s World War Z and Slave 12 Years”, “Selma” in 2014 and other famous photos. “If Beale Street Talked” in 2018 and “Minari” in 2020. On the TV side, the company has already launched projects such as HBO’s 2014 adaptation of “Normal Heart”, Amazon Prime Video’s 2021 limited series “Underground” The Railroad and FX’s Feud: Betty and Joan from 2017.
This year, Plan B hits the nail on the head with the HBO Max streaming hit “Father of the Bride” and the Marilyn Monroe biopic “The Blonde.” “Blonde” is seen as a top prize contender this year, especially for star Ana de Armas.
So, the time is ripe to look at the market’s support for Plan B. Production companies with a track record of delivering unique high-end content have been selling at premium prices. No doubt Pitt and his partners have seen the recent sale of Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine to Candle Media, Sony Pictures Television’s acquisition of Industrial Media, and more.
