Brad William Henke has passed away.
The “Orange Is the New Black” actor – best known for playing prison officer Desi Piscatella on the prison series – died in his sleep on Tuesday (November 29, 2022) at the age of 56, his family confirmed but did not provide information on the cause of death details.
His manager, Matt DelPiano (Matt DelPiano) told TMZ: “Brad is a very kind person with a joyous energy. A very talented actor who loves being part of this community.. …. We love him too. Our hearts go out to his wife and family.”
The former NFL player is survived by wife Sonja, stepson Aaden, stepdaughter Leasa, grandson Amirah, mother Tammy and sister Annette.
Drafted by the New York Giants in 1989, Brad was cut during training camp and traded to the Denver Broncos, where he joined the team in a Super Bowl game against the San Francisco 49ers before retiring due to injury in 1994 .
He then turned to acting, appearing in films including Space Jam, Gone in 60 Seconds, One World Trade Center, Pacific Rim and Split.
Brad has also appeared on various television shows such as “Chicago Hope,” “Lost,” “Criminal Minds,” “Shameless,” “The Office,” and “MacGyver,” and won an award with the cast of “OITNB” in 2017 won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance in a Comedy Series.
He had previously reflected on how “lucky” he was to find a new career after his athletic dreams ended.
He said: “I’m lucky, I’ve found something I like to do a million times more than playing football.
“I was a bit lost for a while after my football career and I’m glad I found this. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life with the best years of my life gone.”
