On Monday, August 8, more than a dozen locally and nationally acclaimed entertainers took to the stage at the Copeland Theater in Meadows to pay tribute to Country Music Hall of Fame inductee Mel Tillis.
Branson’s tribute to Mel Tillis was held on the country music legend’s 90th birthday, on the evening of Branson’s inaugural Mel Tillis America Day.
The City of Branson declared Mel Tillis State Day on August 8, and Branson Mayor Larry Milton addressed Tillis at the Branson City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 26. The Leith family released a statement.
Organized by Tillis’ grandson and Branson Alderman Marshall Howden, this concert features performances and/or appearances by Mel Tillis Jr., Billy Yates, Clay Cooper, Doug Gabriel, The Blackwoods, Brandon Mabe, CJ Newsom, Rick McEwen, Stevie Lee Woods, Kari Garrison, The Sons, Tammy & Tonya Bilyeu, Logan Allen, Trey Dees, Denny Yeary, Jody Madaras, Valerie Hill and John Schneider.
“My family is forever grateful for the opportunity to perform in Branson over the years,” Howden said. “I wouldn’t have been able to grow up with my grandpa as a kid if Branson hadn’t kept him off the road and in his own theater. As mayor and I continue this entertainment holiday program, we have to do something special for my grandfather .”
Concert tickets are $10 per person, and all proceeds go to Branson Cares, which provides pediatric wheelchairs to children in need around the world.
