SAO PAULO – Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will visit Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, on April 15 after visiting China from April 11-14.
According to the preliminary arrangement, the President is expected to attend the appointment on April 15 and return to Brazil on the morning of April 16.
This will be Lula’s first official visit to an Arab country during his third term. There are no details about his schedule at the Emirates yet.
President Lula postponed his visit to China and the UAE following medical advice. The first date announced for his visit to Abu Dhabi was March 31.
In November last year, Lula traveled to Egypt to participate in COP27 as a guest. He was president-elect but had not yet been sworn into office; therefore, it was not an official visit.The Emirate of Dubai will host COP28 November 30th to December 12th this year.
The 22 countries of the Arab League are Brazil’s third largest trading partner after China and the United States. Last year, Brazil exported about $18 billion to Arab countries and imported about $15 billion from the bloc.
The UAE is the main Arab buyer. In 2022, Brazil will export US$3.25 billion to the Gulf countries and import US$2.5 billion. Poultry protein, sugar, gold and cellulose are the main products exported from Brazil to the UAE. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria and Bahrain are Brazil’s five main Arab trading partners.
