Homecoming: Suzanne Missionary Baptist Church at 4335 Cavill Creek Road, Barbersville celebrated its homecoming on Sunday, October 9th. Former church pastor Tracy Call preached and Theresa Jeffries shared the gospel through song.
80 years old: Janet Nicol, member of the Catholic Church of Our Lady of Fatima, prepares to start another age group on Monday, October 10, as she bids farewell to the 70s. May her 80th birthday bring great joy, health, love, happiness and fulfillment to her life.
The Musical: “Spookley the Square Pumpkin: The Musical” at the Ritter Park Amphitheatre, 7pm Saturday, October 8th and 2pm Sunday, October 9th, at the Ritter Park Amphitheatre at the Greater Huntington Park and Recreation Area and the Huntington Regional Theatre. Greetings: What could be better than pizza in a birthday celebration? For coach Brian Carr, let his Vincent D-Team football players celebrate with him. Coach Karl’s “Blow the Candle” day is Saturday, October 8th. May it be an exciting, enjoyable and super day without a day (or at least part of a day) coaching.
Auto Show: Classics, trucks, cars, poles and imports will be showcased at the Auto Show on Sunday 9 October from 1-7pm in the car park of St Stephen’s Catholic Church in Ona. Admission is $10. Trophies are also awarded in various categories. The event is co-sponsored by the Catholic Church of Our Lady of Fatima and the Knights of Columbus. Proceeds benefit OLAF schools. Call 304-955-5215.
BIRTHDAY: After an earlier trip to Europe, his mother’s 70th birthday celebrations, a half-day cruise on the Weser River and his mother’s visit to Huntington, Dr Henning Vauth is settling down and will likely be on Saturday, October 8 Birthday. The Music Director also plays the organ at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Huntington. The German pianist is professor of piano at Marshall University and co-director of the Center for Art Health. Here’s hoping for a well-deserved happy day enjoying God’s many blessings.
Cattle: The Lawrence County Farm Bureau hosts the Lawrence County Upper Loop, Market Feeder and Potential Heifer Show at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds on Sunday, October 9 at 11 a.m. The weigh-in is from 8 am to 10 am, admission is $30 and show games are $5. The cattle must be in place by 10 am to need a generator. Performance age groups are Junior, 8-14 and Senior 15-21. The event is a donation drive for those undergoing chemotherapy. Participants can bring care bag items such as lip balm, lotion, snacks, small blankets, socks, word puzzles, magazines and other comfort donations. Two: Caroline Bird Williamson lost her husband two years ago (October 8, 2020), and it may have felt like a lifetime for her. Alan O. Williamson graduated from Huntington East High School with Caroline in 1965 and met at their 35th school reunion. Death is indiscriminate and can happen at any age at any time. Prayer and thoughts are with Caroline on this anniversary.

Concert: The MU Jazz Ensemble, sponsored by the Marshall University School of Music, will perform a concert at Smith Recital Hall on Monday, October 10 at 7:30 pm. Admission is free.
Beloved: Debbie Conley battled illness after retiring from Marshall Health and lives to praise God for healing her body. The sweetheart and member of First United Methodist Church in Huntington will celebrate her birthday on Monday, October 10. May you have a pleasant and relaxing day with family and friends.
Band: The Ionton Arts Council will kick off its subscription concert series with the Cornet Band from Saxton, Frankfurt, KY on Sunday, October 9th at 3pm at First Presbyterian Church in Ironton, Ohio. Tickets are $15, available at the show, and students are free.
Pumpkins: The annual West Virginia Pumpkin Festival features Mobile Glass Studios hand-blown glass, apple butter making, chainsaw engravers, quilting exhibits, antique tractors, gospel singing and more, starting Saturday, October 8 at 9 a.m. Runs through 9pm to 9am to Sunday, October 9 at 6pm at Pumpkin Park in Milton. Admission is $10.
FESTIVAL: The Harvest Festival and Bean Dinner will begin Saturday, October 8 at noon at the Lawrence County Historical Museum at 506 S. 6th St. in Ironton. The event is free.
