Britain says Taliban should not be recognized as Afghan government-News

[ad_1]

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that Afghanistan will soon form a new government.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Sunday that no one should bilaterally recognize the Taliban as the Afghan government, adding that the country will soon have a new government.

“We don’t want anyone to recognize the Taliban bilaterally,” Johnson said in an interview. He urged the West to cooperate on Afghanistan through mechanisms such as the United Nations and NATO.

“We hope to reach a unified position among all like-minded people as much as possible so that we can do everything we can to prevent Afghanistan from becoming a hotbed of terrorism again.”

Taliban insurgents entered Kabul on Sunday. President Ashraf Ghani left the country. The U.S. Embassy said that the capital’s airport, where diplomats, officials and other Afghans had fled, was attacked.

“The British ambassador works around the clock and has been at the airport to help with applications,” Johnson said.

When asked if he would have expected this country to fall into the hands of the Taliban so quickly, he replied:

“I think it’s fair to say that the U.S. decision to withdraw accelerated things.”

In addition, according to RIA Novosti State News Agency, Russia said earlier on Sunday that it has not yet recognized the Taliban insurgents as the new legal authority in Afghanistan.
