British mass shooting suspect named “terrorism” debate news

[ad_1]

Jack Davidson, who claimed to be “incel”, killed five people in a rare mass shooting, including a young girl.

A man who killed 5 people in a 6-minute shooting in the UK was named 22-year-old Jack Davidson, but the police said that the motive for the murder was unclear.

According to police, Davidson, a crane operator, began shooting with a pump-action shotgun at around 6pm (17:00 GMT) on Thursday, first at a house on Bidick Avenue in the southern city of Plymouth. Killed a woman he knew.

He ran out of the house and immediately shot and killed a young girl who was walking a dog on the street with her male relatives.

Davidson shot two other seriously injured passers-by, then entered the park and shot another man, then killed another woman in Henderson Square.

Then he aimed the gun at himself before the gun officer could deal with him.

In a video posted on the Internet, Davidson complained that he did not lose his virginity as a teenager and described himself as “incel”-or an involuntary single.

According to The Times, he complained in the video about being defeated by life.

Devon and Cornwall police chief Shaun Sawyer said the fatal shooting was over within minutes.

“There is no motive,” Sawyer told reporters, adding that the police did not consider terrorism or any far-right organization, even though the police were browsing his computer.

Sawyer said: “We believe that we have had a domestic-related incident that has spread to the streets and saw some people in Plymouth die in extremely tragic circumstances.”

Sawyer could not explain whether Davidson, who has a gun license, had mental health problems.

Debate on “terrorism”

In the UK, there are relatively few shootings because gun ownership is not widespread there. This tragedy sparked a debate on the term “terrorism” on social media.

Although the police ruled out the motive of “terrorism”, some people said that Davidson’s rampage should be regarded as a “terrorist” act.

Former chief prosecutor Nazir Afzal (Nazir Afzal) said on Twitter that these killings “are not terrorism as defined by the law.” “But today’s report on the’right-wingers obsessed with American gun culture’ should be included on the watch list. If it is’gender terrorism’ whose main target is women, then it is equally frustrating.”

Musician and actor Lily Allen wrote on Twitter: “He claims to be an incel and misogynist. Disgusting women is terror. In my book it is terrorism.”

“What is called terrorism and what is not a political issue,” said historian Alex von Tunzelmann. “But we cannot ignore the form of radicalization that seems to prevail in these cases: misogyny.”
