Bye Gosh Fest provides entertainment

Bye Gosh Fest has been held on the UW-Oshkosh campus since 1979 and provides students with a fun end-of-semester experience.

Headlining this year’s Bye Gosh Fest are former Disney Channel stars Aly and AJ. Their opening act was local band Mubus.

Presented by the Reeve Union Board (RUB), the event features a variety of artists voted on by students during the semester over the years to perform in the Kolf Sports Center parking lot.

In previous years, Bye Gosh Fest featured artists such as Bob Dylan, Skillet, Michelle Branch and T-Pain, said RUB consultant Dylan Bram.

“The overarching theme of the event was to celebrate the end of the year,” Bram said. “So even if you don’t hear the headlines or the concert doesn’t do much for you, we still want people to celebrate.”

Bram attended Bye Gosh Fest during UWO, when Bram was at university the event looked very different, a smaller event was held.

“Back then, it was on a smaller scale and happening around Reeve and NBC (Nelson, Brees and Clemans Halls) villages,” Bram said. “The music, I think it was Nappy Roots at my first Bye Gosh Fest, was played on a small stage on the Reeve Marketplace patio.”

Bram said that when he participated, he felt the impact of the event was a way of showing concern for students.

“The main impact I felt was celebration and UW-Oshkosh really wanted their students to know how much they were appreciated,” Bram said.

Bram hopes the event will have the same impact on today’s students.

“To this day, I want students to come to this event and feel a sense of accomplishment that they’ve made it this far,” Bram said. “The beginning of a celebration before summer, graduation, or whatever the future holds for them.”

There are some new elements to this year’s event, Bram said.

“All of us at RUB wanted to highlight some new elements this year, including six food trucks and a street magician,” he said.

The event is largely planned by students of the RUB Executive Committee, such as Casie Frentzel, RUB Chair of Live Music.

“Planning Bye Gosh Fest was not easy,” she said. “There’s a lot of coordination involving headlines, opening lines, production companies, and collaborating with other team members.”

This is the first time Frentzel has planned the event and the second time he has participated.

“Last year, I hadn’t been on the executive committee, but I was being trained by Emma, our current president, and then president of live music,” Frentzel said. “I hadn’t seen Bye Gosh Fest in person until last year, so it was a new experience for me.”

Frentzel says the festival’s impact on her is that it showcases the hard work of the RUB executive committee.

“I think it’s representative of our student body’s closing event at the end of the year,” Frentzel said. “There were components of all of our chairs that day.”

Aspects of the different chairs are featured throughout the festival. “

“We have bucket hats from the crafty adventure chair, wandering magicians from the entertainment chair and special event chairs, and we also have inflatables, novelties and more,” says Frentzel.

The impact on students as a whole is that this is a student-led event, Frentzel said.

“For the student body, I think the impact is that the student body can put it on,” Frentzel said. “This is a great [representation] As students, what can we do for students. “

Frentzel said the event was a celebration of the year and a way for the students to enjoy life.

“It’s a way to celebrate the end of the school year with the campus,” she said. “We put a lot of effort into the day and it was all worth it seeing a lot of people show up and enjoy themselves.”
